Medical Spanish Course

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

A beginning course in Spanish intended for those with no prior knowledge of the language, or as a brief review for those with some knowledge. The emphasis is on Spanish words and phrases used in the clinical setting, to help the medical student or resident interact with Latino patients while doing a history and physical exam. There also is emphasis on the cultural background brought to the clinic by the Latino patient and how it impacts patient interactions with the clinical staff. A ten-session course with an online post-test covering both language and cultural elements of the course.
