The MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine Statewide Campus System (SCS) is sponsoring the fourth annual SCS Scholarly Activity Poster Day, to be held in conjunction with the SCS Membership Meeting on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Poster abstract submissions concerning research, quality improvement (QI) and other scholarly work projects (e.g., case reports & series) are invited from:

  • MSUCOM Medical Students
  • SCS-affiliated Residents and Fellows
  • MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine Faculty

This will be a juried competition, with cash prizes and certificates presented to winners:

  • Medical Students: $500.00 (1st Prize) and $400.00 (2nd Prize)
  • Residents: $1000.00 (1st Prize), $750.00 (2nd Prize), and $500.00 (3rd Prize)
  • Faculty: $400.00 (1st Prize) and $250.00 (2nd Prize)
  • (There must be a minimum of five entries in a category for prizes to be awarded)

To be eligible, posters must present new research, quality improvement and scholarly work project that contributes to medical or healthcare knowledge. (NOTE: Although single case study or case series posters will not evaluated for awards, they may be accepted for presentation if space allows).

Abstract Entry Procedures

Each submitted poster abstract will first be reviewed by a panel of judges. The authors of accepted poster abstracts will be invited to present their posters.

Abstracts must be emailed to Dr. Bill Corser at by 5 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017.

  • Poster abstracts must be submitted in MS Word or PDF format.
  • There will be a maximum limit of 350 words for the abstract.
  • Project abstracts should adhere to the following general structure:

    1. A short, specific project Title
    2. Author name(s)
    3. A brief Introduction section
    4. Purpose of the project
    5. The specific Research Question/Hypothesis (research projects) or problem/phenomenon (QI project) being addressed
    6. Description of the Methods/Project Design
    7. Results in sufficient detail to support...
    8. Conclusions.

Specific evaluative criteria for accepted research or QI poster abstracts will be emailed to presenters by May 8th.


NOTE: Please limit your Poster size to a maximum of 3’ by 5’ or we may not be able to provide you with an optimal posting location. Push-pins will be provided for affixing posters to display boards. There will be no electrical outlets available for any additional display mechanisms.

Set-up for accepted posters will begin at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, May 24, at the MSU University Club (3435 Forest Rd., East Lansing, MI 48910). The exact location of the poster display areas will be assigned onsite. Authors are also expected to be present beside their poster to answer any questions during judging (approx. 8AM to 10:30AM). Posters should be available for display from 8AM until 11AM, after which time they may be removed. Any posters remaining on the display boards after 12:00 noon will be discarded.

Announcement of the award winners will take place in the poster display room at approximately 11:00AM
